In early April of 1998 Area 51 came to life in the garage....however on Sept 19, 1998 Area 51's demise occured under the lights of Silverstate Raceway in the main event. We had our best times and best start of the year. We had been running pretty slow all year and therefore starting in front in the heat races and the main event. Tonight we had managed to be one of the fastest of the slow heat....some progress in our eyes. We have also had a lot of over heating problems this year with our 403 Olds engine, in our Grand Prix. But over coming those in the the heat race we even passed a couple cars and we were closing on 2nd when we were being hit from the rear by #54 and on turns 3-4, #54 was in me hard, but I saved my 3rd position. Not much in the scheme of life but we really were happy. Then the main event came on and as we lined up in the pits #54 was right behind me. I was third on the inside for the start. Then #54 bumped me, was that a hello or what!! We lined up for the race and the #84 car & #7 that were in front of me dropped to the rear and I was on the pole with #69 to my right. We came around for the start on turn 3-4 and the green flag was waving....#54 was into my rear bumper again. Hard charging to turns 1-2 and #69 & #33 pushed past me to swing in for 1st and 2nd...I was in 3rd and #54 was ramming my rear bumper again. We charged around a couple of laps with a real tight group and every corner I had hits on the rear and side and then going into turns 3-4 again I was being sandwiched, getting me turned a bit and I was trying to correct for it and then they were off of me finally and the car over responded to the correction I had been trying to make and sent me right into the wall coming out of turn 4. I hit hard on the right front, taking out the bumper and most of the front end, right tire and fender, grill, radiator, right suspension and frame. I slid down the wall about 50 feet and came to rest just past the start/finish line. That was about the jest of it ...Start/Finished....for Area51. Just on a note....I was under the impression this was a no cantact sport. I can say for sure that though I had damage to both sides and rear of the ship, the nose cone was undamaged, as I did not push people, I might slide up into them or down as racing does but my nose cone was undamaged prior to the fatal impact.... Anyway they brought out the tow truck and helped me get her off the track and backed onto the trailer so I could get the poor broken space ship home..... It looks it had come thru the astmophere and impacted hard....This ship is gone forever....will another some day return????
