Coleman-Isgate Post #293 - Historical Overview

Historical Timeline & Legacy

Established: May 14, 1936

Originally chartered as a Domestic Nonprofit Corporation with the Texas Secretary of State, Coleman-Isgate Post No. 293
was named in honor of local veterans Coleman and Isgate, whose service and sacrifice inspired the post's founding.

Period of Inactivity

Over the decades, the post experienced fluctuations in membership and activity.
By 2019, it had dwindled to just two PUFL (Paid-Up-For-Life) members and was at risk of losing its charter.

Revitalization Effort

In October 2023, the 7th District Executive Committee stepped in with a mission to save Post 293.
Through outreach and community engagement, the post was successfully revived, growing membership to 25+ active members and counting.
The revitalized post held its first new meeting in years, marking a powerful return to service.

Rusk Veteran Center Reopened

Post 293 also reopened the Rusk Veteran Center, a vital hub for local veterans seeking support and connection.
The center now serves as a gathering place, resource center, and symbol of the Legion's enduring presence in Cherokee County.

Why It Matters

Coleman-Isgate Post 293 isn't just a building-it's a living legacy. Its revival reflects the strength of East Texas veterans
and the power of community stewardship. From honoring its namesakes to reopening the doors of the Veteran Center,
